Google: Just Because You Call Yourself The Best, It Doesn't Mean You Should Rank For The Best

The Best

So you name your company Best Company, so for SEO companies, you go with the name "Best SEO." Should Google rank your web site number one in the search results for the query [best SEO]? Probably not and that is what John Mueller of Google is saying here on Twitter.

Just because you give your company name a generic name that describes the business you are in, it doesn't mean you will rank well in Google for your name.

So if you name yourself Payless Shoes and you want to rank well for [payless shoes] in Google, you better do a lot of marketing to make your brand name feel less generic and more a branded name.

Here is how John put it:

Just because you have a brand name that is generic, it doesn't mean you will rank well for it. In fact, it will make it harder for people to find you on Google because they are searching for a generic keyword phrase.

If anyone wants to name their company "RustySEO" do let me know.
