Dr. Pete Meyers

This is part of the say something nice about an SEO/SEM series - feel free to nominate someone over here.

Dr. Pete Meyers is 47 years old, lives in the Chicago suburbs with his family, consisting of a really smart wife and two awesome kids. His wife holds a PhD in High Energy Physics, so she is way smarter than Pete. The best part is that I alway see fun pictures of Pete being dominated by his 7 and 5 year old - he seems like just an awesome dad.

Dr. Pete, as he is commonly referred to in the industry, is the Marketing Scientist at Moz. He is one of the more loved personalities from the company, always sharing really nice data, new tests, of course Mozcast and so much more. He is always one of those personalities that so many people in our space feel close with. He is genuinely a nice and caring guy.

His honesty, humor, up-beat personality and caring nature makes him really stand out in our industry and someone who is a no brainer to honor here. I can go on and on about Dr. Pete but I rather you hear from two of the people who nominated him.

No one entertains me on Twitter more than Dr. Pete Meyers. He's also smart and has a keen sense of how the world should be, but it's his crazy wit that I enjoy the most. He always brightens my day.

Dr. Pete is one of the most honest and upright people in our industry. Yes, the good Dr. puts out wonderful research that provides true insight. However, to me, what makes him special is that he doesn't compromise on what's right. On more than one occasion, I've personally seen Dr. Pete do something that is perhaps uncomfortable for the sake of total transparency. In our day and age, that's truly special.

Dr. Pete Meyers Bio: Dr. Peter J. Meyers (AKA "Dr. Pete") is Marketing Scientist for Seattle-based Moz, where he works with the marketing and data science teams on product research and data-driven content. He has spent the past six years building research tools to monitor Google, including the MozCast Project, and he curates the Google Algorithm History, a chronicle of Google updates back to 2002.

Favorite thing about the SEO community? I'm constantly amazed by the generosity of the SEO community. We have our problems, like any community, but when it matters, there are a lot of people that I know have my back. Even when I was getting started, people were surprisingly generous with knowledge and advice, I've learned more than I can probably ever repay. The people I grew up with in the community on the Moz blog feel like a graduating class, in a lot of ways.

One piece of advice to the SEOs out there? Don't get tunnel vision. Developing specialized knowledge is important, but search is changing all the time, and we need broad awareness. Know what's going on in paid search, broadly. Know what's going on in local. Pay attention to SERP features. You can be the best link-builder or technical SEO or content creator in the world, and if Google launches a portal in your industry, your world can change overnight. Be a better, broader marketer, and never think you know everything.

Favorite things in general? I'm pretty boring. I love to read and have been doing more writing. Got a first-draft of a novel that may see the light of day someday.

What you want to be known for in the SEO space? I hope I can give back as much as I've gotten. I try to put good information out there, to be fair-minded, and to be conscientious. Having an audience is a responsibility and a privilege, and I try not to take advantage of it.
