"Not Provided" Keywords In Google Analytics Higher Than Expected

Google SSLWhen Google announced they are defaulting logged in Google users to SSL search - Google told us this would impact less than 10% of statistics in the analytics.

As of yesterday, it seemed like the switch over is now complete and we can see the true impact of the percentage of searches blocking keyword data in your analytics.

For many, it is well above 10% but not all.

Seer Interactive reported that "Out of the 37 sites, 16 had over 10% of the Google organic traffic come from “(not provided)” and one of the sites was at 21.05%." Search Engine Land reported it was 7 to 14%.

I looked at a few sites and here are two of those charts:

Today, November 3rd, I looked at the stats for November 2nd and it was over 20% for this site!

The main issue is that this is still rolling out, so the number can increase in the future. And there is also no doubt in my mind that Google will eventually release this for users who are signed in, making this 100% the case.
