broken google logoRemember we reported that the EU wanted to break up Google? Well, they voted on it on the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday and it passed.

The vote was approved 384 to 174 with 56 abstentions on breaking up Google.

Greg Sterling explained it is a "non-binding vote" and that the "resolution essentially has no legal force." But it did make a political statement and the EU wants more, as Greg explained:

  • Increasing tax revenues
  • Promoting “non-discriminatory online search”
  • Preventing the “secondary exploitation” of search data
  • Developing uniform rules for cloud computing
  • Promoting net neutrality

There is tons of coverage of this on Techmeme.

Of course, the webmaster community is pretty divided on this as well.
