Google Balls LogoLast week, we reported that many searchers began complaining they were getting the old Google home page but Google is actually doing this on purpose. This is not a bug. If you see the old Google home page that has a black top navigation bar, it is by design, Google says.

Google's nealem wrote in the Google Web Search Help thread:

Thanks for the reports. I want to assure you this isn't a bug, it's working as intended.

We're continually making improvements to Search, so we can only provide limited support for some outdated browsers. We encourage everyone to make the free upgrade to modern browsers -- they’re more secure and provide a better web experience overall.

Google links you to a page of browsers at whatbrowser.org, which is owned by Google and heavily promotes Chrome, Google's browser but also says you can try Firefox, Safari and Opera (not Internet Explorer).

Here is what the page looks like:

So if you see the old Google home page, update your browser or just live with the old Google home page - since you are already living with an old browser.
