Google Search Console Tool

Google has announced that the new beta Google Search Console is now getting the link report. Google said they are moving the Links to your site and Internal Links report from the old interface into the new Google Search Console under a single Links report. I do not see it rolled out yet but it should be live soon, Google says. Google also said the new report is more accurate, and because of that you may see fewer links reported in this new version.

You will be able to access the link report, as I covered at Search Engine Land, over at https://search.google.com/search-console/links when it is rolled out - but that might take 24 hours or so.

For now, here is an image of the report showing the new Link report for External links is broken into (a) top linked pages and (b) top linking sites.

Google did post this help document that explained the types of data you get from this report including:

  • Top linking domains (Which sites link to me the most)
  • Top linked pages (Which are my top linked pages from other sites)
  • Which are my top linked pages from a specific site
  • Top linking text (What link text points to my site)
  • What are the links from a specific site to my page
  • What are the top sites linking to my page
  • Top linked pages (Which of my pages is linked the most from within my own site)
  • Which of my pages links to my page

Google also said in the help document that the data is more accurate in the new report, saying:

Data in this report is more accurate than the old Links to your site report. As a result, the values in the new report may be lower, but this does not indicate a drop in links, but rather a more accurate and secure way of reporting them.

I do not have access yet to play with it, so until then, keep an eye out for it.

Last week, Google added manage users and permissions, add sites and validate ownership and view the mobile usability report to the new Google Search Console as well.
