Todd Mintz

This is part of the say something nice about an SEO/SEM series - feel free to nominate someone over here.

Todd Mintz lives with him family consisting of his spouse and two children in Beaverton, Oregon. He is a very active personality in our industry, being a founding member and board member of SEMpdx, a respected SEM organization based on Portland.

I feel like I've known Todd for well over a decade now. I remember him from back in the Sphinn days and before. He is always the first to want to help build communities and associations for the industry. He knows very well that these online and offline communities not only help individuals in the space get smarter, do better jobs and even get better jobs - but overall, it also helps the overall community get smarter and better.

You can find contributed content from Todd on so many diverse sets of blogs, industry publications and news sites. You can find his tweets and other social shares on a daily basis. You can hear him speak at industry events or local meetups.

Todd has been part of the SEM/SEO industry and community for about two decades. He is caring, giving, and extremely honest and loyal. He is one of the good guys in the space and without him, the industry would not be where it is today. He is always there to help someone else and I am honored to know him for such a long time and excited to see his contributions in the future.

James Svoboda nominated Todd and wrote:

Todd Mintz has been a quiet but staple figure in the search marketing community for the better part of the past 2 decades. He is a founder and has been an active board member of SEMpdx in Portland since it’s inception.

Todd helped launch the SEM conference SearchFest (now called Engage), and had moderated more sessions that I can even count.

He’s helped other search marketing associations like MnSearch, get off the ground. For which I will always be grateful to him for.

Todd’s experience in search marking now only covers most paid media platforms; he even has a background in SEO and blogging. He’s a great guy who everyone I’ve ever met has had a similar and positive experience with.

Thank you Todd!

Todd Mintz Bio: Todd is the Senior SEM Consigliere for 3Q Digital and has worked there since March 2011, when we were a small team of 20 people instead of the biggest private agency in our space. He is a Director & Founding Member of SEMpdx: Portland, Oregon's Search Engine Marketing Association.

Favorite thing about the SEM community? Loyalty and personal commitment. There is an extended core group of us who have been in this space for 10-20 years. I know "of" a lot more people than I actually know personally...but for people in this extended group, there are incredibly deep connections between people who might have never met or have only met in passing. Within this group, I have seen so many examples of overwhelming generosity and personal commitment to people in need that are part of our community.

While we might seem to be a tough crowd to outsiders, we are actually quite welcoming and generous to those who approach us.

One piece of advice to the SEOs out there? While I'm no fan of George Michael, the phrase "Listen Without Prejudice" has always resonated with me. So many people think that just because they have a little experience and have learned a few things, that they have a sense of entitlement for rankings, revenue, etc. Those people ultimately become search marketing roadkill and it's so obvious to me who these people are and what their fate would be. Humbleness and humility are so important for long term success in search marketing and the best & brightest search marketers realize how complex our field is and how much we continually need to learn and study.

Favorite things in general? Red. Pork BBQ. I love obscure music and movies from the 60's and 70's and I'm a huge Portland Trailblazers fan.

What you want to be known for in the SEO space? Many people know me for my snarky, off-color humor and while that is part of my personality, it's also a personal hook that allows me to meet and interact with people that I might not otherwise know. I'd rather be known for the relationships that I've built in the space and for the contributions I have made to both the search marketing industry and to specific individuals within it.

To learn more about Todd, you can check him out at SEMpdx site, follow him on Twitter, connect with him on LinkedIn and friend him on Facebook.
