The Grand Slam Google Doodle Bug

Yesterday, Google featured a special Google Doodle for the 94th birthday of Jackie Robinson. The Doodle/Logo rocked but there was a serious issue with it.

When you clicked on the logo, the first result that ranked was jackierobinson.com. The .com is the wrong site, the official Jackie Robinson Foundation web site is jackierobinson.org, the .org. The other site is not official and benefited from all this traffic.

The Grand Slam Google Doodle Bug

Allison Davis, the director of communications from The Jackie Robinson Foundation said in a Google Web Search Help thread yesterday that she appreciated the Doodle but was upset the real site did not get the traffic from Google. She wrote:

My name is Allison Davis, Dir. of Communications with the Jackie Robinson Foundation, and while we are thrilled that you're featuring him in the Google Doodle today, it's linking to a broken site. The site it should link to is jackierobinson.org ... the organization founded by his wife Rachel. I can be reached at 212-290-8600 ext. 329 if you'd like to discuss this further.

As you can imagine, the amount of lost traffic lost here and potential new donors and awareness the site could have received is virtually countless/priceless.

This may be one of the bigger errors Google has had with their Google Doodle results in a long time.
