Video Recap of Weekly Search Buzz :: October 24, 2014

Oct 24, 2014 - 12:30 pm 4 by

This was a busy week in search, where we covered a couple updates. First, late Friday night, Google quietly began rolling out the Penguin update, they didn’t confirm it to later but we still think it is rolling out. During this time, Google released an update to the DMCA piracy update algorithm, which also rolled out this week. Panda 4.1 seems to have stopped rolling out, so I ran a poll asking if you were hit. Google AdWords also updated their ads to handle piracy. Google is showing videos in the search results a lot less often. German publishers, after asking for removal, want back into the search results. Google says you should use both XML sitemaps and RSS/Atom feeds. Google told us news publishers don’t necessarily get priority in the new “In The News” box. Google also said it may make sense to give Google News publishers a factor in the Google search algorithm. Google wants to observe you as you build and market web sites. Apple Maps Connect lets business owners maintain their business locations on Appel Maps. Google manually edited Stephen Colber’s knowledge answer after he rants about it on TV. Charles Floate was arrested over hacking and child pornography allegations this week, he was an 18 year old black hat SEO. That was this past week in search at the Search Engine Roundtable.
